NATURAL OILS – My Homemade Blend of Jojoba Night Oil

Oils extracted from plants have been used throughout human history for their medicinal properties as well as their benefits to skin and hair. I love knowing that what I put on my skin every night is natural, organic, vegan and ethically sourced.

Sometimes I wonder why it took me so long to switch from using the typical night creams to using natural oils. It seems so obvious now – gentler on the skin, no animal testing, no unnatural chemicals. I guess I still wanted to believe that the creams contained magical ingredients which really would prevent (or reverse… yeah right) skin ageing.

I think there is also a general fear about putting oil on the skin increasing the chances of spots. It seems possible, but actually there have been many studies which have found the opposite to be true. I certainly haven’t had any more spots since I switched to night oils 4 years ago.

My special blend night oil contains jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil and rosehip oil. The wax ester produced by the jojoba bean is similar to the protective wax produced by human skin that helps keep it smooth, supple and moisturised. Jojoba oil naturally contains a balance of vitamins A, D and E which are skin healing vitamins as well as essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Apricot kernel oil is also rich in vitamins and is great for repairing damaged or dry skin. Rosehip oil has been called the ‘anti-ageing’ oil because it protects the skin and increases cell turnover due to the beta ceratene (a form of vitamin A), vitamin C and vitamin E which help to fight free radicals.
